They all need to put that same effort in checking their kids grades and backpacks. SMH.

I feel both sides. I feel like supplies should be worked into the budget. We don’t need brand new stadiums in high schools for the football players. We need to be buying them kids pencils and paper.

Every time the teacher sends a letter home when they needed extra supplies, I always supplied it and I’m a Paraprofessional for a school. I don’t make anything and still made it possible.

I buy all of my kids I currently have a few extra things for my kids but I ain't made of money either. I shop as cheap as I can to get my kids school supplies. I now have 2 on school. it most definitely ain't cheap when you have more kids. I started the beginning of June. I will be buying the normal needed things early every year crayons, pencils, pencil boxes, erasers.

I had six kids in school at the same time. I brought everything that they needed and then some. my problem is that the teachers complain about the brand you buy

The teachers shouldn’t have to pay for anything not even classroom decorations. Some of us parents are in the same boat and some are jobless, The school district should supply all of that and parents should provide extra throughout the school year. My only problem is that I send the extra supplies solely for my children so that the teacher won’t have to call and say my child doesn’t have or ran out because it wasn’t labeled for her/she to know who contributed, writing names on supplies teaches appreciation and makes the child proud to participate “ hey guys say thank you to Johnny for bringing tissue for the class”.

Apparently things are a bit different in Michigan than other states. Teachers pay for extras like decorating their classrooms, but toilet paper, Kleenex, and most class supplies can be ordered through the school on district budget. I sub 2nd through high school in 3 districts, so I see it from multiple perspectives. Teachers end up buying items to enhance and get kids more excited about school, but basics are covered. I’m a sucker and buy all sorts of stuff for positive reinforcement.

Honestly I don’t want to go shopping for stuff, just take my money. I send it to the teacher with my kid in his back to school folder! And I really don’t care what the teacher uses it for I don’t care if she uses it all for school supplies or for lunch or for snacks or if she just goes and buy a case of wine. They do a job that I cannot do and I appreciate them!
