So with crime rate being per capita, how does boundary size affect that?? It doesn’t make sense to me. Tell me st louis isnt that dangerous after you’ve worked police or ems in north county

I love St Louis. My FIL was from there and we visit every year. I have never been worried about the city. Maybe a bit in parts of East St Louis, but no more than other poorer parts of other cities. And I am an Iowa farm girl. I love your series!

Stl city could be an awesome walkable city if our leaders invested more in the infrastructure for public transportation.

St. Louis is a great place to raise children. Everything to do is basically free! The zoo the museums the parks. Forest Park is larger than Central Park in New York. We have the largest outdoor amphitheater in the United States and it’s got free seats. St. Louis is amazing.

I work in admission at an ahem local catholic college - you might have heard of it - and we have to explain this at least once daily to prospective students and their parents from Chicago, Detroit, LA, etc ... it's exhausting

I live here and can confirm it’s HELLA dangerous here. Folks that dispute this live in the areas that are protected. Poor areas have NO protection!

Just took a 4 day trip to st louis, never once felt unsafe. We heard shots at night from our porch, but no different from growing up in little rock. Parked our car on the street, walked around the arch and all over forest park and union station. Kids running around, people out exercising.. it was pleasant. Old architecture. The basilica was beautiful. I like this city. There were parts around delmar away from the loop i wouldnt trust though. Just like anywhere, the truth is gray

THANK YOU for putting this together. So exhausted with these skewed stats. I live in STL City. I’m a real estate photographer and see all parts of the region. Yes, we have crime but most of it is confined to very predictable areas.

Go interview residents in the College Hill or JVL neighborhoods and get their opinion on the danger of St. Louis City

There are two extremes and why I hate this debate. One side says the city is so lawless you can't even drive through or visit. On the other side you have city boosters and urbanists who deny reality. Truth is somewhere in between.

If you take the approach of "if the city was bigger" or "if the population was bigger" you'd have to have a metric to raise the crime numbers. X amount of homicides per 100,000 is the metric the FBI uses to gauge crime. If St. Louis grew in size and population, the number of homicides and other violent crime would grow too. St. Louis is very much a dangerous city and to try to sell that its not is disingenuous. If you dont think St. Louis is dangerous, it's because you avoided the dangerous parts and turned a blind eye to them.

Tbh, if you mind your business then you’re fine in STL. I grew up just outside of STL and it’s not as bad as people think

(The creator deleted my comment) 6 neighborhoods in north St. Louis commit 90% of all murders in St. Louis city. St. Louis is very safe, just gotta calm the north side
