I was around nineteen, when one night at around 3 am, my dorm room phone rang. It was a campus policeman telling me that I had to move my car or else it would be towed. I had forgot to move my car from the front lot, to the student overnight parking in the back of campus. Without thinking of asking my roommate to come with me, I jumped out of bed, grabbed by keys, and rushed to my car because I did not want to be towed and pay a hefty fine. I arrived and there was only one campus policeman in his car. He seemed nice and I thanked him for letting me know to move my car, instead of just towing it on the spot. I get in my car and start driving to the student overnight parking lot. But, I notice that the Campus Policeman is following me. I thought to myself, “maybe he just wants to make sure that I am safe.” So I kept driving. For some reason, I started feeling uneasy, because it was 3 am, no one was awake on campus and there would be no one at the parking lot, other than the policeman if he followed me there. I almost drove to the 24/7 convenience store outside of campus, just to get away from him. However, I thought I was just overthinking it and decided to keep on driving. I finally arrived to the overnight student parking. I get out of my car and the Campus Policeman stopped his car behind mine and I could see him getting the passenger seat ready. Suddenly, a still, small voice inside of me (which I truly believe was the Holy Spirit) told me to not get into his car and to keep walking to my dorm building, which was only a 5 minute walk from the parking lot). I remember telling the Officer, “No Thank you, I’m just going to walk because my dorm is very close.” What happened next was truly God protecting me and I will be forever grateful that He saved my life. I was stunned when the Cop started getting mad and yelling to get into his car. I was shocked. I started to quicken my walking pace. I really didn’t know what to do at that moment, but I remembered feeling that I couldn’t trust him. Then, something miraculous happened. My University’s 24/7 Shuttle, that ran every 30 minutes or so, all over campus, appeared out of nowhere. When I saw it, my heart gave a sigh of relief and I knew God sent it to save me at that moment. The driver was also a Female which further eased my mind. I ran to the shuttle so fast and in the background I heard the Campus Policeman yell “I saved you $200.” After I heard that last line from the him, I knew that he wasn’t just looking out for my safety. I didn’t have the chance to find out his name or his license plate to report him, but I started sharing my story with others on campus. I truly believe God gives us a still, small voice to guide us through life. I shared my experience to my roommate the next day and she was freaked out. I must admit, for a split second, I almost went into the police car because I felt bad at hurting the Cop’s feelings since he was very insistent on giving me a ride to my dorm. But then I remembered, “it’s better to trust the discernment in you, than trying to people please someone who might possibly cause you harm.” As women, we always have to be awake, alert and aware of our situations. God bless ya’ll and I hope this encourages you to always trust in God, the discernment He’s put in our hearts and to live wisely. #Godisgood #discerment #safetyforwomen #awareness
