After finishing work, Lisa stopped by the grocery store before walking home with two heavy bags. The evening should have been peaceful, instead, a drunk man blocked her path. At first it was catcalling. "Hey, beautiful. Where are you going with all those bags?" She kept walking, her gaze locked dead ahead. "Come on, don't be like that. Talk to me." Still walking. Until the drunk man stepped directly into her path, cutting her off completely. His clothes were wrinkly and stained, his posture highly unsteady. “What? You didn’t hear me?” Lisa stopped, pulling herself up to her full, towering height. "I heard you." The man’s sloppy grin widened, thinking he had won her attention. "Then why didn't you answer me, huh?" "Because I didn't want to." The sloppy grin disappeared instantly, wiping off his face fast. "What was that?" Lisa calmly shifted the heavy grocery bags, balancing her weight. "I said I don't want to talk to you. Please move out of my way." "I was being nice to you, girl," he sneered, stepping closer. Lisa almost let out a cynical laugh. "No. You really weren't." Unfortunately, the man mistook her unwavering confidence for a physical challenge. He lunged stepped forward aggressively, raising a hand, and immediately tripped spectacularly over the raised concrete edge of the sidewalk curb and he crashed face-first onto the hard pavement with a loud, heavy thud. Silence. Beautiful, golden silence. Then the man let out a dramatic, furious howl. "YOU PUSHED ME!" Lisa stared down at him, her jaw dropping. "What?" The man sat up, pointing a dramatic, trembling finger at her. "You pushed me! Everyone saw it! She pushed me!" "I absolutely did not touch you, you tripped over the curb." A small crowd began gathering in a loose circle, and suddenly, dozens of random eyes were staring directly at them. Watching. Judging. Whispering to one another. For just a second… Lisa felt like she was sixteen again, standing alone while everyone watched. Then a familiar voice cut through the crowd. "What exactly happened here?" Jennie’s voice cut through the noise like a razor blade. The drunk man, still sitting on the pavement, pointed up at Lisa. "She assaulted me! This giant girl pushed me down!" Jennie looked directly at Lisa. Lisa looked back, her dark eyes wide, vulnerable, and slightly pale. “You were assaulted?” Jennie asked calmly. “Yeah! She pushed me!” Jennie looked up at the security cameras above them before smiling. Not kindly. Dangerously. “I would absolutely love to call the police.” "We can easily review the footage with the precinct officers," Jennie continued her voice echoing with absolute authority, "and determine exactly who is at fault for public intoxication, harassment, and filing a false police report." The crowd began to murmur in agreement, nodding. The man looked up at the cameras, then up at Jennie’s icy expression. Panic spread across his face. Finally, he muttered a string of curses under his breath and stumbled away down the street as fast as his unstable legs could carry him. The crowd disappeared soon after. Jennie didn’t ask if Lisa was okay. She simply took one of her grocery bags. "Let's go," Jennie commanded. Lisa blinked, her brain struggling to catch up. "What?" Jennie kept walking, her heels clicking sharply. "What do you think you're doing?" Lisa called out, frowning. Jennie completely ignored the question. She reached her car and placed the heavy grocery bag inside. Before Lisa could form a sentence, Jennie walked right back, took the second bag from Lisa’s hands and placed it in the back seat too. Jennie closed the car door with a firm, solid thud and turned around to face her fully. “Get in.” Lisa blinked, her voice small. “What?” “Get. In.” The drive back to their apartment complex was incredibly quiet. For the first time in years… Lisa couldn’t stop wondering why the person who once made her high school life miserable had been the first person to stand beside her when she needed someone most. #jenlisa #lisa #jennie #fyp #jenlisastory
