Originally designed to carry nuclear payloads deep into enemy territory, the Bear’s range, speed, and endurance made it a cornerstone of Soviet deterrence during the Cold War. In 1961, a specially modified Bear was chosen to carry and drop the Tsar Bomba, the most powerful nuclear weapon ever detonated.
