as an Irish person, we learn alllll about this. and now as a teacher for international language students, they also learn all about it at my weekly Irish culture classes. they all view the British empire as a very different entity now

As a Welsh person, this sickens me to the core. The British Empire is the reason we are all living a nightmare everyday. They colonised Wales first and took away our culture, identities, language, killed our royals and only taught us English history. It saddens me so much

You have a somewhat warped view of history. Britain wasn’t responsible for the Bengal Famine or the Irish famine. It was the Irish who continued, as they always had, to export food to Britain. Ireland at the time was part of the United Kingdom si is it right even to call them exports ? It’s not as if settlers in Australia deliberately introduced diseases to the Aborigines in order to kill them. The Windrush passengers weren’t invited to Britain, they came uninvited to look for work.

I just got UK citizenship! Proud to be British. I have been welcomed into this country unlike any of the many other countries I’ve lived in. That said, yes these are historical tragedies. But don’t forget countries can change. And the UK has done many amazing things too.
