Summer in Japan is all about spectacular fireworks.🎇Among the many fireworks festivals held across the country, the Omagari Fireworks in Akita is ranked as Japan’s most prestigious fireworks competition. Top pyrotechnicians from all over Japan gather to launch their best creations in a bid to be crowned number one, showcasing stunning displays you won’t see anywhere else.✨There are heaps of highlights, including a special program by the previous year’s Prime Minister’s Award winner. The festival has a long history dating back to 1910. This year, in 2025, it’ll be held on Saturday 30 August. It’s split into two parts: daytime fireworks from 5:10 pm, and nighttime fireworks from 6:50 pm. Set against a backdrop of rolling hills, the dedicated viewing site is the perfect spot to take in the show.
