This is a SUPER hot take and I can understand if 99% of people will disagree but IMO LCSW’s are under-qualified to do intensive long-term therapy. Would I see an LCSW for stabilization in a crisis? Yes. Would I see one as my long-term maintenance therapist? No.

If you’re just gonna be a therapist and do private practice type stuff than LPC is fine LCSW just gives you more options like working in schools, government agencies, hospitals, prisons etc

As a licensed psychologist, only do a PsyD if you want to do psychological testing + ok with having a ton of debt. Or get the PhD but only if you are okay with doing a lot of research. If you only want to do therapy, stick with a masters degree. There is no need to get a doctorate in that case.

Just graduated with my PsyD — I’d recommend the PsyD bc you collect most of your hours towards licensure during your program. Secondly, if you come in with a LPC, you cannot count your LPC client hours towards your PsyD.

As an MSW I promise- we all are doing the same thing with different approaches. Helping people is beautiful and idk what the LPC/LCSW divide is but it’s weird. ALSO psyD is something you can still do post grad! ❤️

I'm a lpc. depends on what u do for a therapist counseling route is where it's at. I can diagnose & have theory and interventions to use. I did my internship with a social worker and I had more education on diagnosis and theory which helps tremendously if u just wanna be a therapist

I love my lcsw and wouldn’t have it any other way. I would do it ALL OVER AGAIN! I have LPC friends who love their degree and path as well. We’re literally cousins in the field! We’re all needed! 🥰
