this is exactly what we had. bath fitter covered over it. we were breathing mold spores for years. finally when my little one started having respiratory issues I opened up the walls and floors. had to rip everything out.

All tile - even a box of brand new tile - will read high on a moisture meter. It’s just like cement will too. Moisture meters are meant for wood or other building structure materials like plaster. 🙄

Grout never had waterproofing properties. It absorbs water very easily. Also everything even the tile steam vapor can get through.

Oh nooo… we live in a 1950s apartment building and are planning to take tile off our shower and replace. Any way for a homeowner to find out what’s behind the tile without having to have someone out?
