I will not be pulling students the first week. I will be pushing into classrooms to complete observations on how they are returning and assisting with behavior management as needed too.

I completely agree wholeheartedly with this video. Also they are gen ed before sped. I love how you also mentioned getting that baseline data...epecially to see where students land from over the summer. I definitely have my paras...we educational assistants push into the classrooms. I love to see great special education teachers! Have a great year!

I do placement tests and beginning of year screeners starting about the third day of school as a resource teacher. That allows our team to know how to set up our schedule for the year.

In Elem I didn’t officially pull the first week- we tested, became familiar with IEPs, gave them time to learn class expectations with their peers, we observe, plan, etc. I’m in HS now, and I will have kids at the bell, day 1 because I am a period on their schedule.

Is that written into their IEP? Because it’s not implementing it with fidelity if they don’t get their hours/minutes. Why not just write it into their plan to keep it all legal

I don’t pull the first 2 weeks. My school is only preschool and kindergarten. So we spend 2 weeks just teaching routines and procedures. So I spend that time pushing into the classrooms and getting to know the students. Then I’ll pull them extra the following 2 weeks to make up the minutes. But by then they are ready to go!
