Bent Terminal on tstat. Saw that when you showed it. Why didn't you start with jumping out tstat b4 you ever went in the attic?

looks like C is wired at the tstat but not at the furnace, only wire on Com looked like the condenser wire. hook up C and/or change batteries before condemning the tstat

Could be batteries or the thermostat. Most Wi-Fi enabled units use 24v from the transformer so don’t need batteries except for backup so they don’t lose settings, but toss a meter on the batteries to make sure.

Batteries on the thermostat. Some are wired to the furnace for power but this one clearly uses batteries.

Pretty sure there was no common wire hooked up back there. Batteries are all they needed.
