Every single one of these was a reservation I had in early recovery — “If that happens, I’ll use.” “If this happens, I won’t survive it.” “If they do that, I’ll go back.” And then they happened. I was handed my drug of choice by someone I considered a friend - I was blindsided. I bumped into the ex I used with an it was bad, like really bad. The. I had to get a protection order (for something completely unrelated to the ex - it’s actually a crazy story and one day I’ll share it) I buried my father and so many people I love. Ive watched people relapse. I got cheated on (not my current partner fam! I’m in a safe relationship now ❤️) I got betrayed. But still - I didn’t use. Because the truth is: using would’ve taken away my choice. Recovery gave it back to me. And every single time I chose not to pick up, I was choosing me. This isn’t about being strong. It’s about being honest. I didn’t think I could survive these things. But I did, one day at a time. And you can too. I just wanted to share this - not to shame anyone who has relapsed on things like this. Because let me be clear - I’ve relapsed on issues like this before, just not in this recovery. And because of that I know it gets better. Not through perfection.Not through strength.But through time, support, and learning to sit with it, even when it’s hard. You’re not alone.
