@dr.tommymartin: @Emily King I believe these are two completely different scenarios and not a double standard #doublestandard #men #women #mother #father
Exactly! She was racing, her dad was not racing anyone! That women is comparing apples and oranges!

The dad also shoved the kids at the mom.

Definitely, dad was just looking to finish without being in competition, mom was looking to finish first in a competitive race.

Who would release small children near the finish line. It’s not safe.

I think the dad tried to sabotage the mother’s run.

Hot take… as a former distance runner… why are people allowing their children in front of the finish line AT ALL?

agreed. When I saw her video, I thought the same thing. Two completely different situations.

Two different people in different races have different goals and needs. Shocking.

I think it was less about her being competitive and more about her running downhill it’s very hard to slow or stop when you are running hard. I think the real issue was with the comments about how he was a bad father for letting the kids do this because of how much she trained and was winning but in reality if she could have slowed and ran through with the kids there was no competition behind her as men and women are in different categories.

How about let’s normalize not letting children onto an active race path where they could potentially get hurt or hurt others trying to avoid them and instead let them wait for their loved one to cross the finish line and safely be out of the way before running up to them.

The double standard is that people are praising the man for going out of his way to pick up his child and bashing the woman because children should come first for her.

also, the baby came from the direction the man was running, the kids were practically pushed in front of their mother

More than likely, he gets free time to train. Mom probably struggles to get that time for herself.

The other race could have put the children at risk. There were multiple runners and a motorcycle that could have been a danger for those kids. Not comparable situations at all.

The difference being the child running to their father from behind the finish line and the children placed in front of the mother before the finish line

Totally different scenarios and the dad letting the kids try to run at her when she’s about to finish just before the finish line not waiting until she’d crossed it seems very suspect to me like he doesn’t respect her passions etc and just wanted to hand the kids back to her as soon as she’d run a very hard race. Lazy dad alert for me in the second video.

To me it’s just rude. People train for marathons and events like that. Why would you send kids at them before they’ve reached the goal they set to finish. Have the kids on the other side of the finish line for when they cross it.

You left the part out where Emily stated the women running originally wanted her kids to run out to her but because she was about to win she bypassed her kids! Now everyone is calling him horrible names based on assumptions! That's the double standard I think she's speaking about! The real problem is strangers always making assumptions!
