Also you don’t eat for 24 hours because you will have had at least 2 meals in the previous 24 hour period and (to put it bluntly) you are not going to starve.

I mean, I’m 100% hoping to never ever be stuck on a lifeboat but if I was, are there exceptions for illnesses because I fear you’ll also have to deal with me passing out from low blood sugar 😅 #AddingToTheEmergency

The 24 hour without water rule sounds pretty bad from a medical point of view. “Survival mode” isn’t a thing, this just increases the chances of having people get sick with electrolyte disturbances, passing out, and eventually vomiting when you do allow them water.

I find that 24 hour rule interesting. You would think considering most vessels travel on standard maritime routes there would be very few instances in the modern age where a boat would go more than 6 hours without rescue. Suppose you don’t want to take the gamble.

on average how long do you think you'd be in the lifeboat for? do you just float about until a rescue turns up? Assume services would be alerted almost immediately

Realistically a cruise ship would never travel in an area where it would takes several days for other ships to arrive to rescue them.
