@j.l.equestrian2: The back story of my precious Ali: @Equestrian Biker Chick Regarding my last video, that I never in a million years expected to blow up the way that it has. I've had many comments as to why I cut his tail this is why.. But also I have had many comments asking "why" and that "he could recover", "he didnt need to die/be destroyed/euthanized", "but he's healthy and eating". He was healthy because I gave him the very best care! He was my everything and I loved him with all my heart! You did not know us and our situation. Everyone who knows us knows that this was only ever going to be the outcome of Ali he was never going to live to an age of dieing naturally with his issues. Anyone who knows anything about horses will know its more cruel to force a horse to live uncomfortably and in pain than being put to sleep. They are big animals and cannot live on 3 legs! I respected Ali and always listened to him he only ever got the best!! Ali sustained an injury to his suspensory ligament back in April 2023 from an accident that occurred in his stable. Since then I have worked closely with my vet, trying to help Ali recover. Ali had awful confirmation (if you don't know what that is do some research) he had long pastons and when walking his fetlock would be close to touching the floor, this was putting even more strain on his suspensory ligament and other joints. We tried to help support that with corrective shoes (egg bars) but they only did so much. He had cortisone injections which once again only did so much for a period of time with rehab and light work. From April 2023 - June 2025 he was basically semi retired, I probably only rode him in light work maybe 25-30 times in them 2 years (on average that's about once sometimes twice a month) and never did he jumped again. He was a successful race horse who was a steeple chaser for 5 years between 2015 - 2020 before I got him at the start of 2021. Being pushed to his limits continuously for 5 years this is probably where most of the damaged was caused. He had plenty of down time with me, as back in 2022 I was pregnant, so I gave him my pregnancy off to rest and enjoy being a spoilt horse in the field. In June 2025 when I took Ali to the vets for what I was thought would be a routine cortisone injection, turned out to be a heart breaking day. The vets scanned Ali's leg to see the suspensory was very badly damaged now and there was nothing else we could do. It was inoperable and he would never recover and it would only get worse. The vet did grant us one last ride as I never got to take him to the beach which he thoroughly enjoyed and what a way to end his ridden career. I was hoping to give Ali a long and happy retirement and enjoy being a spoilt pony, which he definitely was. But within 2 months he very quickly deteriorated and some days he couldn't weight bare and was struggling to walk, this is when the vet and other professionals said that it was time. With something like the suspensory its better to be a day too early than a day too late, because if the suspensory was to completely go with him still alive, it would have been catastrophic and no painkillers or anything would help Ali with the horrific pain he would have been in. I gave my boy the very best in our 4 and a half years together full of love. He owed me absolutely nothing but I owe him everything! I thought we would have many more years together but it wasn't to be. The last kindest thing I could do for him was to let him go with his dignity. He was my heart horse, my best friend, my soul mate and my saviour from my darkest times, he was family. This was the hardest thing I have ever had to do.
