@hennyondatok: my thoughts on James Gunn’s take on Superman, the character’s Jewish American origins, and the fundamental changes in Kal-El’s heritage that make a more nuanced critique of Zionism strike a bit closer to home.
it’s even crazier because this script was likely written like 5 years ago

James Gunn is such a great director and studio head. I think Superman hit so much harder than Fantastic Four and commented on this moment so well

thank you for this!! i'd been hoping to see in depth analysis of the anti-zionism of the film within the context of superman as a jewish character (and superheroes and comics in general). very insightful; id never thought about ultraman like that before

So I get that the clone's name was ultraman, but he really didn't act anything like ultraman. I honestly thought that was really supposed to be bizarro.

Also Superman straight up says he’s fighting the isntreal parallel because of the bad things they’re doing, not because of who they are!

as an aside I would recommend the book Kavalier and Clay by Michael Chabon which is historical fiction about the start of comics as we know them today.

I don't understand the Bright burn integration. We have Ultraman stories. Ultraman as a character and idea is really engaging with the discussion around whether or not capes are justified in offing people to help the world. The iconic Ultraman image is him hovering outside Lex's window and Lex knowing that its over. He's typically a representation of authoritarianism unlike Brightburn. And Gunn only produced Brightburn.

Gunn said directly the story wasn’t about Israel/Palestine.
