sea levels and elevations. if the earth were flat this would absolutely make no sense. but because of the gravitional pull and elevations makes it possible to see things like this. our perspective of what is high or low is only visible to the person seeing it. earth's elevations are all over the place. this makes this possible. besides groundwater.

From the water cycle as precipitation and snow/ice melts. This water forms lakes, rivers, and other tributaries. The volume of water is usually high during the spring season when precipitation usually increases and the spring thaw is occurring. And it is quite common to have lakes and rivers at high elevations
