@moonlitreadsss: Book people: what’s your system?? Do you wrap them? Box by genre? Chaos? Am I doing this wrong?? 😩 #BookTok #moving #packingbooks #movingtips #bookcommunity #bookishproblems #moonlitreadsss
The third option. Put the spines against each other and fill the smaller sections with hardbacks standing up so the paper backs do not move. Make sure to use small boxes. The weight adds up fast

I saw someone put them in suitcases and literally carried them with them cause they didn’t trust the movers with their books 😂 absolutely valid, they’re precious

Just moved! My advice: bubble wrap or regular wrap your favorites/exclusives, but don't do both types of wrapping. You'll run out of time. That's what I faced and had to box the rest without wrapping. It also gets pricy. Banker boxes=best boxes. Not too heavy and if you have health problems like me, even you may manage one box at a time. Tote bags are your friends with paperbacks - but consider wrapping stacks of them together before putting them into bags. Only a few had small cover bending, but it was upsetting. I actually bought massive grocery bag totes 3 for $30 from Amazon and reused them on multiple trips. They fit almost a whole book cart per bag.

Very small boxes and I bubble wrapped any that were special editions. We moved states two years ago and I had somewhere around 30 boxes of books.

i just moved with soooo many books and i recommend doing it the third way and using small boxes! if you’re super worried about damaging books that mean more to you, you can wrap them in something soft (think a tshirt)

I bought Rubbermaid clear totes with locking lids I'm not taking the chance of water damage

Use a suitcase if you can! They’re able to handle the weight of your books better but there is more chance for damage. My paperbacks got a little warped but it was easy to

I pack them like #3 if there’s room and if not I pack with the spines down so the pages don’t get bent

I mix of second and third way. The first way will destroy spines at least it does in hardback books 🙃

If I have to pack, I lay them down. I put hard covers on the edges of the box then paper in the center.

I put a layer of books in the bottom of the box (double tape the bottoms for stability) then fill the box with clothes or other light non damaging items so it doesn’t become 700 pounds 😂

Make sure to use small boxes if you go the box route keeps the weight manageable

I just moved and packed them like the third example you gave (not on the spine) and I used lots of small boxes so they weren’t too heavy and I loaded them in my car with my I didn’t let the movers or anyone else touch them I was the only one who handled them. I wasn’t moving far and I had multiple days overlapping in my old place and my new so I was able to make a separate trip for just my books I would use clear lid locking totes if you can’t do that
