Girl save yourself all that sanding and trial a gel stain! I did my last kitchen with gel stain and it’s 10000x easier and actually looks great! Just needs a bit more finessing while applying. Just rough up sand.. like 5 minutes a door. Coats until the gel looks good (at least two) and seal. Since the gel is more opaque, it covers a good bit of grain also

I refinish furniture all the time I have lots of tipes for you. 1. for a large project like this I just tried green EZ stripper for the first time, it’s worth every penny. 2. A carbide scraper is also worth every penny you can just scrape a finish off. If you want a lighter natural look general finishes flat out flat is the only top coat i’ve found that keeps the natural wood color mostly intact (depends on wood type).

If you don't like the grain, look up Retique It. They have a primer with wood particles so it's stainable. Then they have a "brushed" look option to apply the stain. Gives a smooth wood look without grain.

People have been saying acetone takes the old stain off without having to stain. Haven’t tried it yet. Can’t wait to see ur finished results!

You need to get liquid sand and spray it on there and then wipe it off

Retinue it right over the existing cabinetry! Minimal prep and sanding. Will probably save you hours of sanding AND give you the look you want

People also say using wood filler helps get rid of the grain look! Maybe try it on the back of one of them because I’ve seen it turn out amazing!

Can’t wait to see the final results! Also, an N95 or respirator will protect your lungs while you sand ☺️

If you prefer to sand? Amazon has foam sanding pads that attach to sanders, and they come in the shapes of trim!

Girl, I was going to do this, and then I was walking around Home Depot and found the exact shade of brown that I wanted. Ended up gutting and changing it. Already essembed cabinets cost about 4k for a FULL kitchen.
