thissss. i went a black tie dress code and was shocked to find out i had to stand in a buffet line in my long gown and heels and only one bar for 300 people. a formal dress code would’ve been more appropriate

People also need to realize there are options between black tie and completely casual. Just because you aren't requiring your guests to show up on black tie doesn't mean they get to wear jeans and flip flops. People can still be dressy without spending hundreds of dollars.

I saw a video where someone said the bride and groom decided to have it at an expensive place. They said they give $25-$50 as a gift. I always match what the price of the plate is per person.

agree! im afghan and our weddings are pretty extravagant but not exactly black tie! almost all the guests naturally dress in black tie & there's always a live singer or band but we do buffet dinners. usually people closest to the couple dress in black tie while those that are distant opt for something less flashy
