So here’s another perspective: I’m a bit of a diva and a germaphobe, and I hate flying. I always have a fun time on Amtrak. First class is the way to go. And they booked a room that comes with a toilet. You can book one without. Amtrak first class is how planes used to be in the 1970s before they were privatized. It’s a lovely experience and you should give it a shot to see if it’s for you ✨

I took a train from New York City to Orlando And it was 2 1/2 days of pure HELL because when these trains go around bends, they don’t slow down so you TUMBLE out of that bed and hit that ground HARD!

I’ve taken Amtrak cross country 4 times, and I would again in a heartbeat. Roomette is the way to go. The food is great, the scenery, the privacy, the ambience of the train. It is fantastic. I’m sorry you didn’t have a better experience.

We did a cross country train tour for our honeymoon. The only way to do train is first class you have your own suite that has beds that are similar to what you’re sleeping on but you have your own bathroom with the door and there’s more space.

My husband has been wanting us to take the Amtrak on a “vacation” from Chicago to NY one time and then to Denver and a couple of other places. I agreed but after seeing this I am unsure. 😂

1998. I lived in CA. family in TX. I had our 1st baby. Mother didn't fly. so she took the Amtrak. It was 2.5 days of breakdowns, no food in the dining car, flooded toilets and half of it was spent on a bus. When my sweet mother walked in my door at 2am, her hair was flat on one side, same clothes and she was still clutching half a dr pepper and a bag of chips she bought before she boarded that she rationed! years later we were able to laugh hysterically at her misfortune
