The rod is not a physical, literal rod. What is wrong with people.

They don’t care about what medical research says. They care more about their book club.

Me and my siblings were all spanked “in a loving way” and we all struggle with anxiety, depression and rage.

Hi, as a child that was spanked, I am emotionally and physical wonderful because my parents did it the right way. I have a great relationship with my parents and I’m thankful for their discipline.

There was another thing that disturbed me recently, that I think affirms what you’re saying. She called her little months old baby’s crying a “temper tantrum”. This is an infant, communicating through crying. I have always found her content so disturbing

If we know this causes real harm based on clinical research, shouldn’t CPS intervene now before their daughter actually gets physically abused?

The rod is a reference to a shepherd rod which was used to lead and guide the sheep not beat them.

I remember a psych prof telling us that parents who say they aren’t mad ARE mad and doing it out of anger. My parents would have never laid a hand on me. Emotionally mature parents raise emotionally mature adults 👏

there’s no loving way to physically hurt your children. their kids will probably be no contact when they’re older

My parents used to tell me, “I do this out of love….” Before using the belt. And then I would be sent to my room to “pray and ask for forgiveness.” I ended up being in really “messed up” relationships, because I thought “hurt” and “love” lived together.

The Bible doesn’t say “spare the rod, spoil the child” exactly, but Proverbs 13:24 teaches that loving parents discipline their children to help them grow in wisdom. The “rod” symbolizes guidance and correction, not harsh punishment. Discipline should be done with love and care, not anger, to shape a child’s character in a godly way.
