It’s a tribal mentality where we must defend our leader no matter what. My mother is the same. She’ll do or say something obviously horrible and I’ll call her out on it and she’ll get all, “I am your mother and how dare you not back me up.” Sorry, I just don’t work like that. I believe that it’s because conservatives can’t think for themselves which makes their leaders become a significant part of their identity. When we criticize their leaders it feels like a personal attack to them. They can’t comprehend that we think for ourselves and don’t make politicians any part of our identities.
