@belightcare: If someone with dementia avoids drinking water, it may not be about the water itself, it could be the taste, the smell, or even how it looks. You can make water more appealing by adjusting one of those elements. Try adding a splash of lemon juice, mixing in low-sugar drink powders like @liquidiv or @truelemon, or putting fresh fruit into the glass for a visual boost. Even if the taste doesn’t change much, the appearance and aroma might make all the difference. And if plain water just isn’t working, don’t stress. Focus on fluids. Whether it’s juice, milk, broth, or even watered-down versions of their favorite drink, hydration is the goal. Foods with high water content like fruits and vegetables also count! Caregivers, you’re doing your best... every sip helps. #dehydration #hydration #dementia #caregiver #alzheimers #alzheimer #dementiaawareness #dementiacare #caregiverlife #alzheimerssucks #vasculardementia #frontotemporaldementia#lewybodydementia#alzheimersfight #alzheimersdisease #dementiasucks #dementiapatients #dementiasupport #caregiversupport #caregivers

Mum drinks cups of tea. 4 or 5 a day. then I add the gateraid powder to a glass and then she will drink a glass of plain water about 6 ish cups of liquids. hope that's enough.

We noticed our mother was having a hard time drinking from a bottle or glass. I had a box of straws and that has helped a lot.

For my grandma, cups with a lid and a straw encouraged her to drink more. And water tempature played a big part - personally I’m a “as cold as posisble” person, but my grandma HATED ice so we didn’t do ice in her drinks and just made sure to dump it when it reached room tempature and refill again with cool-not-cold water

There could also be issues with vision or dexterity so consider different containers!

my favorite way is just talking about how I am really thirsty while drinking in front of them, offering them something. eating and drinking together, if possible, can encourage them.

I love to make my clients’ “smoothies” by just mixing their ensures/premiers with yogurt and water + a little honey to keep it sweet, no blender needed and they get their fluids + nutrients without chugging it down bc it’s thick and they feel full periodically

I believe Tea might count for water intake! And if old folks are anything like me a 17 year old, they might love tea as a option!
