I live in SC/NC and make good money but I have zero savings. Only debt I have is school debt. Can I get land?? I’m in the process of getting a USDA loan or NC housing loan (waiting on my underwriting)… should I ask my loan officers about buying only land?? I don’t need to live on it yet. I just want to get a big property first.

went to farm credit wast and got the ball rolling..also worked for Cornell coop extension this summer...guessing thats a good place to start

My state has a beginner farm loan but it states that any part of the loan may not be used for a personal residence. That makes it difficult to farm if you have to commute, pay the loan, and rent somewhere else. Did you have to deal with that and how did you afford a residence on the land if you can't use the loan?
