Who are these comments from? Grabbing the neck so as not to pull the horse over backwards is the exact right thing to do. The stirrup falling off did exactly the thing its supposed to do in the case of someone being dragged. A really experienced rider MIGHT have their stirrups set to not come loose so they can ride a horse through this, but thats a big MIGHT. Ride the horse forward is the correct thing to do. If they are galloping they can't rear.

then you go get the horse and get back on because if the rider let's the horse continue it will become a habit. I have actually pulled a horse over, never did it again i wasn't hurt or the horse..hes being stubborn and doesnt want to be ridden.
