@spacetomove: I’ve always found that my neutral facial expression tends to cause a bit of a stir among neurotypical folks. To me, it’s simply how I look, calm, composed, perhaps even a bit blank, but somehow it often gets mistaken for disapproval, lack of energy or boredom. I’ve had people ask if I’m upset, annoyed or uninterested, when really, I’m just lost in my thoughts or trying to process what’s happening around me. Being neurodivergent means my way of expressing emotion or sometimes not expressing it, isn’t always what people expect. I don’t mean to come off as cold or unfriendly; it’s just how I am. But the misunderstanding can feel isolating. I wish I could just show my feelings more openly, or that others would understand that a neutral face isn’t a sign of negativity. It’s simply my natural resting expression, shaped by how my brain processes the world.
