I'm Italian and I lived in Morocco for a few months this year, I already speak fusha and I was trying to learn darija there. Eveytime i went to the medina to do some shopping I would try to speak darija but the people would talk to me super fast and if I asked to speak slower they would just switch to french instead😭 i want to learn but at the same time i can't do super fast convos after just a two weeks of learning darija

i never actually hate on people who speaks broken Arabic like i get it you grow up mostly speaking the language of the country you lived in and including Arabic itself is very hard to even learn because it takes so much time mostly Moroccan dialect so I don't care i like helping them if they needed help or correct them in a nice way

Also a foreign tourist is very unlikely to speak French. They’re far more likely to know English so why French? Just speak Darija 💗

Once a woman said: “Don’t mind them this generation only speaks Italian” I looked at her and then started to talk in darija with my strong Khouribgi accent like she shuttled up instantly😭
