@7newsaustralia: An online survey has found that 90 per cent of Australians would support the speed limit increasing to 130km/h on highways. #speedlimit #speedincrease #road #highways #autobahn #7NEWS
That would mean people would be travelling at 140km - 150km/h on average.

It’s not the speed limit, it’s the capability of the driver

You need to improve the roads first. I went through Europe 2yrs ago, they’ve got new roads with 3-4 lanes for 130 speed limit not 2 lanes bumpy roads like we do

80km/h and 60km/h zones on the highway in regional zones are a joke

Everyone already does 130. If they raise the limit people will just do 150

Europe's highways are DESIGNED for travelling at high speeds. Australia's is not. I notice the reporter doesn't bother to say where this supposed 'growing public support' is coming from either.

A $300 fine might be nothing to someone in a new BMW, but it could mean skipping rent or food for someone earning minimum wage.

No the answer is better training. In germany you have to do an advance driver course and they apend longer on the learners.. also what happened to driving to suit road conditions? Speed has nothing to do with death tolls 🤦🏽♂️

if they did that surely theyd have to increase p plater speed limits - doin 90 in 110s were bad enough , especially when merging into motorways

Our roads are not good enough to be doing 130kph. Also there is a huge difference in driver skills. Some of our new Australians cant drive at 60kph. Also driving your car at 130 uses an extra 30% in fuel..

Need to actually introduce tests for the oldies getting license renewals, currently the bar is set at them being able to see and pass a basic cognitive test

Shouldn’t be a question about wether modern vehicles can do it the question should be wether people are competent enough, especially old people

I think if someone causes an accident or is caught doing 20km (or more) under the speed limit, they should be made to complete the physical driving test again. they obviously aren't competent enough and this is where the biggest problem is

I feel like before we do that we need to have a nation wide sit down and teach everyone how to merge on to highways, the amount of people I see daily trying to merge on to the highways at 60kmph is crazy.

I drive all day and have done for 30 years, most people struggle to drive at 110, Im all for 130 but how you going to get those drivers that drive at 100 up to 130. Disaster.

Can we also get a speed minimum? So many people need to go faster on our highways, I should only be passing trucks and caravans..
