Some tips I have for getting out safely, as someone who has done it themselves. (These tips may not work for every situation). 1- don’t tell them you are leaving! 2- have one or more trusted people on the outside who know your location or your travel plans. 3- make sure you collect any important documents (birth certificate, social, kids documents, etc) 4- know your county or state laws if you plan on filing any kind of police report or pressing charges. I could not file a report because where I ended up was a different county than where the abuse took place.

I’m a surviving victim of domestic violence and my coworkers wife set me up for a safe exit! It helped so much to have a plan. If there’s anything I can do to help you with your business let me know! Happy to help

for me, make all plans and moves quietly and discreetly. I told 1 other person and had to shut down all other social circles. Literally started completely over with my 2 kids and that 1 friend. It is so important to try to act normally til you can work your plan. Have cash on hand enough for a hotel room and gas at minimum. I was married and would pull extra money out for "extra groceries". I began doordashing and stayed close with my local shelter. Document everything!
