Ear cropping is different from ear tipping which is used in the US to indicate feral dogs and cats whom have been neutered or spayed. And can we also not crop tails unless there’s a medical reason

To say cropping takes away a dog's ability to communicate is factually wrong. That would mean dogs with pointed ears are unable to communicate. There are times cropping ears are necessary: Reoccurring ear infections due to moisture trapped with flopped ears, a working line hunting dog to prevent damage from animals, etc.

It’s astonishing to me that people still do this. When I was a kid we adopted a boxer and didn’t get her ears cropped at our vet’s recommendation, that was the 80s. Why are people still cropping dogs’ ears.

It’s like declawing a cat…I don’t think I could ever do that to an animal unless it was medically necessary. One of my cat needs teeth pulled and I’m dreading putting him through that.

cropping tails and ears didn't start out for aesthetics. if u look into the history it largely deals with working dog safety when they could get tangled up in older machinery and fencing. but in the present day it is absolutely abhorrent

It's completely illegal in most of Europe now, this should only be done if it's absolutely necessary for the dogs health. Like docking too, I know a dog who needed about 3/4 of her tail removed but she also had an accident & this was necessary.

Obviously I agree with the message but we also need to bring awareness to MEDICAL cropping which HELPS the dog, of course it’s rare and only certain dog breeds benefit from it but people forget medical cropping exists

but it can be for medical reasons some dogs ears can hold in water and can cause severe ear infections that can cause pain and some owners crop them for the dogs comfort but you don't have to crop them all the way just to the point where they are comfortable
