Is pretty much Venetian Plaster what you did, if you polish it with a Scraper Trowel will show more texture if was applied correctly.

not hating, I think it's cool... but why not just put the texture on first and then paint it? sure, it's a little more work but the paint seals and protects the spackle from moisture
