Today I want to share an important part on the mechanics of vocal technique by focusing on the role of the sternocleidomastoid and scalene muscles in the neck. You’ll see how a controlled exhalation, without any explosive force, causes a visible expansion in the neck. This demonstration shows how to approach a vocal attack using the “colpo di glottide,” or glottal closure, effectively, without adding tension to the neck muscles. As a result, you’ll find more effortless and powerful sound production. To illustrate this, I use the phrase “Un trono vicino al sol” from Aida and even take it beyond the usual B-flat, reaching up to a D-flat, all while maintaining ease and control.
