How yall in these comments saying I didn’t expect to read subtitles. They eventually speak English when the colonizer in it more. But ofocurse they gonna keep it straight INDIGENOUS! Like it doesn’t make sense to be speaking English if they didn’t speak it at all. Keep it ORIGINAL!

As a kanaka, I just close my eyes and listen to the beauty in our language. Of course I rewind to watch what I missed but hearing ‘ōlelo spoken fluently squeezes my heart. Jason momoa doesn’t speak it great at all times but his effort is enough.

Many viewers might have missed what was the pivotal scene between Kaʻahumanu and the Oracle. When the Oracle tells her, “The Gods fear you,” it wasn’t just dramatic, it was prophetic. While much of the storyline centers around Kings and Chiefs and wars, the Oracle reveals that the true revolution would not come through a warrior, but through a woman.That woman was Kaʻahumanu. She wasn’t just Kamehameha’s favorite wife, after his death, she rose to power as Kuhina Nui (a role similar to Prime Minister). She dismantled the traditional kapu system, which had long oppressed women. She embraced Christianity and helped usher in a new political and spiritual era.
