I got lucky. I found a Penske Fury 4 string bass sitting outside a dumpster and I took it, cleaned it up, bought new strings and a new strap, and recently bought a plug in amp that works with headphones or a speaker, and it works perfectly. still learning, but doing well emulating songs I have listened to for the most part.

I got my used Ibanez for dirt cheap since the tone control had gone bad, luckily I had exactly same 500k log potentiometer stashed up and it took only 10mins to change them.

I’ve found some insane equipment finds on marketplace this is great advice. Also it’s hard to go wrong with a sterling SUB series bass, they sound awesome and they’re a really good price. I also see tons of them used for an even better price

I got my bass for dirt cheap because my guitar teacher wanted to make room for more guitars, I love it, it was disgustingly dirty, it was rusty in a lot of metal spots, new jack port put in place and now after a year it's not working properly, my friend also got a used squier bass also quite disgustingly dirty, that's my issue with second hand stuff and specially with electronics, you never know how the other person used it. For example I have a huge bass amp that's covered in felt (I really need to find out why manufacturers do that) and when I got it it was disgustingly covered in dog fur all over and the front mesh was brown with dirt, I was never able to fully clean it out and I don't really want to clean hole by hole

My favourite bass of the 3 I’ve ever owned is the Yamaha I got for free from work (points rewards system, my whole team got together to gift me the points once they found out I played 🥹). The other two would’ve been more expensive new (bought used) but my Yamaha just feels so good to play
