@wildlife_rescuers: Kiwis are unique, flightless birds native to New Zealand. They have long beaks and round, fuzzy bodies, and they’re mostly nocturnal and very shy. Kiwi moms lay one of the largest eggs in proportion to their body size. After laying the egg, the dad usually takes over and incubates it for around 70 to 80 days. When kiwi chicks hatch, they’re fully feathered and surprisingly independent. They can start exploring on their own not long after hatching.
