I’ll never understand how people can have cars, buy things from stores, live here, and hold jobs—but can’t speak a word of English. I came here at 18 and learned English in six months. Those first three months were the most embarrassing time for me. I knew way more than this guy, and I was still so embarrassed not to know enough English.
