@thescottishwife: There are loads of scone recipes out there - but I like to keep it simple & traditional ✨ Traditional Scottish Scones: 🥣 250g (2 cups) self-raising flour 🧁 1 tsp sugar ❗️1 tsp baking powder (forgot to say this in the video — don’t skip it!) 🧈 60g butter (1/2 stick or 4 tbsp) — not too soft, not too cold 🥛 150ml milk (a little over 1/2 cup) 🥚 1 egg Rub the butter into the dry mix until you get a breadcrumb texture. Add the milk and beaten egg. The dough should stick to your fingers, but shouldn’t feel wet — I added a little more flour to get it just right. Roll it out, cut into scones, brush the tops with milk/egg wash, and bake at 400°F (200°C) for 13 mins — hot & fast 🔥 You’re looking for golden tops, a good rise, and a hollow sound when tapped underneath. Cool on a wire rack before serving with jam & cream. I sweeten my whipped cream with a little powdered sugar — totally optional but so good 🍓🍰 I got 7 scones from this batch (though it usually makes 6). Simple, cozy, and classic 🫶 let me know if you try them 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿💙 #scones #sconesrecipe #thescottishwife #Scotland #afternoontea #teatime #simplerecipe #simplebaking

If you see white lily flour out and about, I suggest buying a bag and trying it. It makes great American biscuits

I’ve often wondered what the difference is between scones and our, I’m American, biscuits. So I compared my biscuit recipe to your scone since it’s simple and traditional like mine and here are my ingredients: 2 cups SR flour, a stick of frozen butter and 1.25 cups buttermilk or whole milk. Bake at 425F hot/fast. That’s it. Some do add a tad of sugar but no one ever adds egg. So it’s the egg! I knew they were different bc my friends mom was British/Rhodesian and made BOMB scones w lime glaze and tea for us. Now I can try to recreate. Thanks!
