you also forgot to mention how it was also ethnically italian but france promoted french immigration there so when the referendum took place it would become france. (Garibaldi which is an important figure of the italian unification was also born there)

Yes, and Italian was the official language there before it was banned by the French government. The same thing happened in Corsica in 1859, before that date all documents were written in Italian including the birth certificate of Napoleone di Buonaparte.

Thanks god is under France. French Riviera is amazing. As an italian it’s a shame how Italy deals with beaches in Liguria. Basically 90% of land is private, with prices that are 50-150 a day. Liguria can be nice but we can’t just afford, even if we live 1 hour away from there. Italian government protect this mafia, is a shame. In summer i go in French riviera, Greece, Spain bacause i pay same price for hotel, fly tickets and car rental as a week in Liguria just to stay in a beach.
