If people actually LOOKED up the filipino tattoos and polynesian tattoos, we wouldnt have people constantly saying filipinos, that get tribal tats, are culturally appropriating Polynesian culture.

The traditional tattoos in visayas and Mindanao were heavily shaded ...also had the same polynesian tattoo patterns like the spear , mountain , bird , fish , etc. there are books on filipino tribal tattoos that have no online copies my brother bought one had it delivered from cebu to Philippines and to my surprise seen a lot of exactly the same patterns as polynesians . the polynesian flow you are talking about that we see these days is the contemporary flow. if you look up the traditional polynesian tattoos they have a very different flow from the modern polynesian tattoo flow . filipino tattoos can also be done on a contemporary flow.

Actually the main difference is the motifs used are specifically unique to their own respected cultures. Any Polynesian and Filipino knows this..

Also filipino tribal has more emphasis on personal and family accomplishments. I have filipino and Polynesian tats that state 2 different stories

The thing is which island of Polynesia are you talking about? Coz you’re just clumping all of “Polynesia” together. Are you talking about the Samoan Tatau like the Pe’a? Or Malu? Or Māori moko, Hawaii, Tonga? Coz each Polynesian island is different with different tattoo patterns. IYKYK.

Cant really compare Filo tats to just Polynesia as a whole cause the tats between each culture are just to different between each other. And what most people think Polynesian tattoos are nowadays are really just modern contemporary pieces that take inspiration from our OG tattoo paterns but aren't 'traditional.' If you get what I'm saying.
