She has every right to be angry, lying is a big deal. And after so many men have lied to her and broken her heart (her father even left her penniless and unprotected) it makes perfect sense she broke off the engagement. Just look at what happened to Aurora, who trusted her husband.

if i was engaged and that night he went to a brothel, that would be red flag city for me, in this day and age, imagine back then? i can’t think of an excuse that would garner staying engaged even in today’s standards.
