On this day Amare had convinced us to make the 5 mile journey to Phelps Lake so that he and I could jump off the 30 ft rock into freezing glacial water. As we reached the top, it was evident that Amare had some jitters. Perhaps he'd overestimated what 30 feet looked like, and the cold feet were setting in. Honestly, I wasn't overly excited about the jump either. I could have easily used this moment as a free pass to skip the plunge, avoid the icy water, and enjoy a very dry hike back. But instead, I saw it as an opportunity to impart a valuable life lesson—one that even adults like me sometimes struggle with. I reminded him that when you're really passionate about something, it's a mix of excitement and fear. To make it happen, you've got to push through, acknowledge the fear, and do it anyway. I praised his courage, reminded him of his strong desire to do this, and pointed out the incredible journey we'd taken to get here. In reality, there was nothing to fear; it was all in his mind. I assured him it was safe and promised to be waiting for him at the bottom, in the water, after my jump. I gave him a big hug and watched him step back to witness my jump. With butterflies fluttering in my stomach, I didn't hesitate. Without a second thought, I sprinted towards the edge and jumped in. Can we talk about adrenaline and endorphins?! Because that’s all felt as I swam back to the surface and yelled up at him “ This is so much fun! Its your turn” I watched as his determined little figure reappeared above the rock, and without thinking twice he took the leap. It was such a blast that we repeated it three more times, and even his brother joined in! This experience got me thinking about all the things we hold ourselves back from simply because they seem a bit scary or unknown. What if, during those moments, we had someone to remind us of the incredible possibilities, the great feeling that awaited us, and to boost our self-belief to follow through? So, here's my message for you today: Go for it. Do that scary thing. Even if there's no one else in your life to push you, take this as a sign to embrace the fear and do it anyway. #MomsofTikTok #boymom #sonshine #feelthefearanddoitanyway #growthmindset
