Here is my theory, let it grow. Get it long enough that you can test a hairdresser with a style not long enough to wear down yet so you can keep doing a bun after so if you don’t like it you are not stuck. If they are good then you can cut it short again.

My hair is below my bra now and it doesn’t hurt to wear it up anymore. It’s long enough I don’t need a lot of tension to make it look neat. I got one of the inserts from Amazon.
