I've found it to be rather pointless to dispute religion. Or argue against the religious at all (this message included). The only possible outcome is abject frustration.
They are immune to reason. Like actually fundamentally incapable of it. It's a prerequisite for their condition. Religion is a rather diabolical affliction in that sense, in that the cure (reason, critical thinking, etc), is precisely what must be missing to be afflicted in the first place.
And so you'll never win with reason. Or with anything. Which can be agonizing for people who can think unhindered by indoctrination. We expect their brains to work like ours. But they don't. They don't follow the same rules. They don't require that 2+2 always equal 4 (metaphorically). They have an extra variable (faith) that can be whatever it needs to be so that the equation equals whatever they want it to equal.
No matter what, they will perform nonsensical mental gymnastics to make reality conform to their preposterously insane beliefs, rather than admitting their beliefs are not consistent with reality.
Myself, and countless others endowed with the gift of critical thought, know it's crazy. Like straight up, should be in a straight jacket in an asylum kind of crazy.
But we are required to share the planet with them. So for now, the best we get is the knowledge that one day, Christianity et al., will be relegated to the same annals of history as the rest of human mythology; and future generations will wonder how it was possible for an evolved species in our day and age, to be so incomprehensibly gullible. Unfortunately not in our lifetimes, however.
I think the most sensible response to their nonsense is just saying "OK". And then just moving on with your day, trying to forget that people actually believe this stuff.
