Castes in Pakistan are an indicator of lineage and ancestry. In India you use its as a form of exclusion. You can’t intermarry between castes. In pak you can.

I need people to stop acting like south Asia was some sort of classless paradise before the British invaded. it wasn't just about "jobs", the lower castes were historically barred from temples and had inadequate access to resources because of the upper caste. The reason why many people converted to Abrahamic religions from Hinduism in the past is because they faced so much oppression in Hindu society. Tradition can be oppressive and Hinduism is not an inherently an open or accepting religion to all. Sorry if that hurts your personal sentiments but that is the truth.

The hierarchy of caste is extremely not okay, but the original use of caste was to indicate your ancestors’ occupation. It’s because of the British that it now has a negative connotation, as they used it to divide us. But there’s nothing wrong with using it as a neutral indicator of ancestry, which is how it was originally meant anyway

there’s a HUGE difference between caste and varna, caste doesn’t mean anything but varna carries culture, religion, language etc, almost like an ethnicity. So it’s impossible to get rid of in many aspects, the only thing WE CAN get rid of is discrimination.
