Hey seems like these comments are not wonderful. I’ve always taken off dressings to be ready for the provider to see when they come in. It’s part of my job as a nurse. I’m not sure why you’ve received so much hostility and I’m sorry for that. I wish you well!

Respectfully if it was new dressing then I can understand why it would have bothered her. So many times doctors show up late or at random times and request things without considering nurses are trying to follow a strict care plan for 4 patients. Patients are unpredictable we don’t want Drs to be too 🥲(however if she made you cry because she was rude about it then that’s not okay 🫶🏻)

I had a doctor remove a VAC dressing that was next to impossible to seal, look at it and then leave, with the wound wide open. It had taken 2 nurses almost 30 minutes to do that dressing. 😡

Chin up and don't let them get to you. I was bullied by nursing staff as F1 and F2. They always seem "nicer" to male doctors and I also had casual racism - they would say "its that brown doctor there!"

You are new not the nurse. Communicate better. Find out the system in place. Taking dressings down & redoing is time consuming when we have no time, painful for pt & traumatic to the injury.

its not only about the nurses time. it is the potential additional pain and discomfort to the patient if the wound is disturbed more frequently than necessary. not to mention the infection risk. you need to plan ahead and communicate with the nursing team. but the nurse should explain it to you in these terms. if they did then you have nonrighr to be upset.

I am a nurse and I worked on MedSurg for three years. You have every right to take down a dressing and look at it. What was the problem? Did you take it down yourself or did you ask a nurse to do it? What made the nurse upset?
