‘Hikaru’ is a metaphor to coming out. He acts and he has the memory of the old Hikaru, but he’s not him anymore, to other people including Yoshiki he’s “something monstrous that replaced the actual Hikaru”. From ‘Hikaru’s’ perspective too, he’s experiencing the world in a completely new way and he’s scared of telling others that he’s not who he was before. And also what that lady said, that Yoshiki should not get too close or else he’ll get “mixed up” because it’s unnatural. Yoshiki is a metaphor for internalized homophobia and ‘Hikaru’ is a metaphor of coming out for the first time and it’s an obvious metaphor, but only obvious to people who understand that feeling

Honestly, the cross necklace part ruined me. I love how Tshd portrays the terrifying side of being queer. Always walking on eggshells around people and not being fully yourself, always hiding a part of you, ashamed for being who you are. Especially if said people are being nice to you or if they're a family member of yours, it feels like being on a stage, acting for their conditional love and acceptance. One wrong word and they start viewing you as if you're some freak of a nature.
