Harlee Gillum :
🌟 A Message from a Proud FFA Member
Hi everyone, my name is Harlee—and this year marks my fourth season in the show ring and the end of my high school chapter here in West Virginia. It’s been an unforgettable journey filled with sweat, grit, love, and learning. But this summer dealt us a tough hand. The heat wave hit harder than anyone expected, and unfortunately, half of my show animals weren’t able to make weight.
For those who know the world of livestock showing, you understand how much we put into these animals—not just money for feed and care, but time, patience, and a whole lot of heart. Normally, I’d be able to sell my animals after fair season to help cover college expenses and make the sacrifices worthwhile. But with this setback, I’m facing the reality of losing the chance to break even.
I’m exploring options like selling at local stockyards, but the truth is that won’t be enough. It’s heartbreaking when your hard work doesn’t quite go as planned, especially with college just around the corner. Still, I’m doing my best to keep pushing forward and stay positive.
If you’ve ever walked through the fair barns, supported an ag kid, or just believe in the power of youth in agriculture, your encouragement means everything. Kind words, connections, or even just sharing this story—it all makes a difference.
💙 Thank you for standing by FFA members like me. We do it for the love of it, and because we believe in the future of farming.
