Girl I swear my washer is un-trickable! I've tried using heavy duty magnets, catching the lock with a screwdriver, and now your trick. It always stops as soon as I open the lid fully. Somehow it alqays knows when the lid opens.I have a Maytag Bravos XL W10240537 B.

I’m pretty sure GE cycles run the bulky cycle/ any non sensing cycles without the lid lock engaged. So in actuality you don’t even have to trick it on this cycle just open the lid when it’s filling
