it's because mods change the factory engineered safety rating I'm guessing. Like are factory hubs , Axel's and CVs able to take the extra load of bigger wheels. If you have it certified by engineers and plated I guess it would pass.

Police only need reasonable suspicion and they can defect you Any copper who thinks they can get technical, like measuring, gauging and using their “observations”, they are wrong. They give you a defect and that is their job done…unless they hold an engineering degree or technical training in engineering, they technically cannot say anything about track width, lift or otherwise. They can assume, give you a defect and send you in your way…let someone competent deal with the defect…not the police.
